This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• As part of the Financial Planning & Analysis team, reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial Systems Senior Manager will be accountable for overseeing the roadmap and optimization of our financial systems by enhancing cross-system integration and refining reporting processes.
• This position ensures that the infrastructure delivers a scalable, high-performance foundation to facilitate our long-term growth and potential transition to a more unified ERP platform.
• The role will lead the cross-functional coordination of finance, procurement, contracts, and HCM modules to guarantee seamless data flow between talent management, purchasing, and core financial systems.
• This position will aid in the effective selection, implementation, and execution of a more unified system architecture for Common App, including improvements, fixes, and process enhancements.
• The individual in this role will provide strategic leadership and oversee the intake, prioritization, and resource allocation pertaining to enhancements and system projects.
• This role will collaborate with leaders and stakeholders to offer consultation and proactively identify opportunities to better utilize existing systems and technologies, investigate new technologies and systems, and create innovative solutions to enhance quality, timeliness, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• The Financial Systems Senior Manager will be responsible for crafting and executing long-term strategies for unified systems to align with organizational goals. This encompasses evaluating new technologies, enhancing system capabilities, and ensuring that systems evolve in accordance with the company’s strategic vision.
• Candidates must reside in the United States.
• Willingness to travel to attend the biannual Common App Retreat.
• A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8-10 years of project or program management experience, including full-cycle ERP or similar implementations from selection through go-live.
• Experience managing projects that utilize phased delivery models encompassing requirements, configuration, testing, and cutover.
• Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Google Suite, Smartsheet, or similar) and remote collaboration platforms (e.g., Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack).
• Ability to work autonomously and ensure accountability in a fully remote environment.
• Comprehensive ERP industry knowledge with a deep understanding of system implementation, including requirement review, solution/design review, system training, cutover, and go-live activities.
• Experience coordinating implementations involving HCM integration (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paylocity) and core financials.
• Attention to Detail: Conducts financial analysis with a high standard of precision and accuracy.
• Expertise: Maintains an active awareness of industry benchmarks and emerging frameworks, consistently integrating best practices to enhance systemic efficiency.
• Leadership: Demonstrates leadership qualities by guiding and mentoring team members.
• Decision Making: Facilitates a structured decision-making process by assessing trade-offs, consulting subject matter experts, and utilizing data analysis to ensure long-term scalability.
• Analytic Skills: Capable of thinking objectively and interpreting significant themes from quantitative and qualitative data while maintaining strong stewardship of confidential and/or sensitive information.
• Adaptability: Ensures effective performance when confronted with ambiguity, shifting environments, and demands.
• Financial Acumen: Core accounting knowledge surrounding financial statements and GAAP to align system workflows.
• Business Acumen: Ability to assess financial and business indicators and convert data into actionable information to drive results.
• Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with finance, procurement, and HCM modules relevant to a nonprofit operating environment, including grant management, remote workforce administration, and AP automation.
• Strategic Execution & Planning: Demonstrates the ability to set objectives and goals, organizing work appropriately to meet and exceed targets. This includes the capacity to think strategically and execute tactically, combining technical, creative, business, and communication skills.
• Relationship Management: Ability to cultivate constructive and effective relationships with a wide and diverse group of business partners.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrates capacity to manage cross-functional teams within complex, distributed organizational frameworks.
• Change Management: Strong organizational change management abilities, including experience maintaining stakeholder alignment when not all requirements can be fulfilled.
• Communications: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver management-level reporting.
• A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or equivalent certification.
• Experience in grant and/or government contracting financial modeling and reporting.
• Previous experience managing ERP implementations in nonprofit, association, or mission-driven organizations.
• Background in healthcare EMR deployments or similarly complex, multi-stakeholder technology programs is considered strong preparation for this role.
• PMP or equivalent project management certification.
• Previous experience as an internal ERP program owner who remained engaged post-go-live in a systems governance capacity.
• Strong analytical/modeling skills with experience executing budgeting and strategic planning processes for complex financial reporting organizations.
• Advanced knowledge of how different modules—Finance (FICO), Human Capital (HCM), Procurement, and CRM—interact.
• Familiarity with APIs, Middleware (such as MuleSoft), and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) to ensure financial systems communicate with third-party applications.
• Influencing and Negotiation: Ability to influence at all levels and demonstrate efficacy in teamwork while assertively driving successful management strategies.
• Presentation Skills: Proficient in various presentation settings (one-on-one, small groups, and large audiences) with peers and management teams.
