Senior Field Service Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Carry out installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on electrical distribution systems.

• Implement startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on electrical power distribution equipment.

• Conduct field service operations on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), PLCs, and power management systems.

• Identify equipment and system malfunctions and take corrective actions.

• Assist with retrofitting, upgrading, modernization projects, and emergency service requests.

• Create electrical diagrams, schematics, and bills of materials as needed.

• Provide outstanding customer service and nurture strong customer relationships.

• Compile service reports, commissioning documents, and customer-related paperwork.

• Conduct work remotely for engineering preparation and on-site for installations.

• Report to the Field Service Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, along with 5+ years of field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution systems.

• Additional formal education may be considered in place of experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Comprehensive understanding of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.

• Experience in commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment.

• Proficient in mechanical and electrical testing of low- and medium-voltage equipment.

• Capability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control drawings.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

• Valid driver's license and openness to travel up to 80% of the time.

• Candidates must possess work authorization that enables them to work for ABB in the United States.

• Preferred: experience with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), protective relays (SEL, GE Multilin, or equivalent), generator control systems, PLC, and HMI platforms.

• Preferred: experience in commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment in industrial, utility, commercial, or data center settings.
