Senior Engineering Manager – Metrics Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Build, lead, and expand a high-performing engineering team responsible for one of Confluent's most vital services.

• Direct the technical strategy to enhance our metrics infrastructure to manage a 10x increase in data volume within the next two years.

• Drive the development roadmap for new metrics datasets, query functionalities, and integration patterns.

• Ensure availability of 99.99% or greater, sub-second query performance, and effective incident response.

• Collaborate with various teams across Telemetry, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product to deliver comprehensive observability solutions.

• Define and implement a multi-year technical roadmap for the Metrics Platform, encompassing data infrastructure cluster progression, data retention strategies, and query optimization.

• Build, mentor, and develop an exceptional engineering team.

• Collaborate with Product Management to outline and prioritize the Metrics API roadmap based on customer requirements and business impact.

• Align with Confluent's wider observability strategy across Cloud and Platform offerings.

• Establish metrics and KPIs to evaluate system performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

⛳️ Requirements

• 14+ years of overall experience in software development and engineering.

• 4+ years of experience in engineering management, leading productive and high-performing teams.

• Experience in operating large-scale distributed systems in production settings (preferably cloud-native).

• Proven ability to recruit and retain top engineering talent, deliver impactful coaching, and achieve high-performance results.

• A demonstrated history of consistently delivering features and meeting tight deadlines with a strong sense of urgency.

• Outstanding prioritization skills, capable of balancing short-term execution with a long-term strategic vision for technical growth.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, emphasizing the cultivation of a positive, inclusive team culture aligned with organizational objectives.

• Strong foundation in distributed systems design, replication protocols, and high-availability production operations.

• Extensive knowledge of Kafka or similar high-scale event streaming platforms (such as Pulsar, Flink, etc.) in cloud environments.

• Experience managing complex architectures across major public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure) or private cloud-native infrastructures.

• Robust engineering background with a hands-on approach to technology and a passion for in-depth architectural analysis.
