Senior Engineering Manager – Corporate Engineering

Posted May 20

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Sweden.

📋 Description

• Lead the team responsible for various domains, including corporate systems, employee device lifecycles, helpdesk queues, and the development of internal tools.

• Oversee corporate security initiatives, implementing security and compliance checks in a manner that empowers employees (through guardrails and paved roads) in their daily tasks.

• Assist in shaping our broader internal AI rollout, enablement, and security strategy across all teams, not limited to developers.

• Manage relationships, negotiations, and contracts with key SaaS vendors.

• Ensure visibility of all work and costs, both within the team and for stakeholder teams to comprehend their processes and efforts. Utilize this transparency to foster continuous process improvement.

• Comprehend and, when feasible, utilize the Grafana product and its ecosystem to address corporate engineering challenges. Open-source our findings for the benefit of fellow Grafana users.

• Serve as a leader within the larger Foundations department, collaborating with all other platform, business application, and security teams.

• Conduct regular one-on-ones, coaching, and mentoring sessions to keep your team members motivated, satisfied, and engaged. Provide ongoing feedback to ensure they contribute value while upholding high standards.

• Engage in team activities. Participate in all work queues. Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming projects, ensuring that they are well-defined and prepared for development. You will also be part of your team’s and department's on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience leading a software engineering operations team. You possess a strong engineering background and can engage in technical discussions, encouraging teams to make robust technical decisions independently. You are well-versed in at least one cloud provider and have a working understanding of Kubernetes (k8s).

• Extensive hands-on experience in managing and automating corporate IT systems commonly utilized by modern tech companies, covering a wide range of operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, Android), SSO (Okta, 1Password), workplace productivity tools (Google Workspace, Office), MDM (Jamf, Intune, FleetDM, Kolide), EDR, DLP, typical corporate SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Zendesk), AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor, Google, etc.), and managing employee laptops and devices.

• You approach IT and corporate security with a DevOps mindset, favoring enablement, automation, and guardrails instead of barriers and obstacles. You have experience in providing internal platforms to other teams and perceive IT as a provider of tools, platforms, and automation rather than merely a ticket-taking service.

• Familiarity with the current advancements in AI and strong insights on how to effectively and safely leverage these technologies across the enterprise to encourage experimentation instead of confining the organization to outdated technologies.

• You possess a deep curiosity about software, security, and the present and future technological landscape. You keep your teams ahead of industry trends.

• An excellent written and verbal communicator, you can convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are comfortable collaborating with engineering teams that have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision-making, guiding through influence.

• Ability to work Eastern Time-oriented hours. Grafana Labs is a global company, and we aim to maximize overlap time with our EMEA colleagues.
