Senior Engineering Manager – Corporate Engineering

Posted May 20

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Lead a team responsible for various areas, including corporate systems, employee device lifecycles, helpdesk queues, and the development of internal tools.

• Implement corporate security initiatives by executing security and compliance checks in a way that empowers employees (guardrails and paved roads) within their daily workflows.

• Assist in defining our broader internal AI rollout, enablement, and security strategy across all teams, not limited to developers.

• Manage relationships, negotiations, and contracts with essential SaaS vendors.

• Ensure all work and expenses are transparent, both internally to the team and for stakeholder teams to comprehend their processes and work. Utilize this transparency to drive continuous process improvements.

• Comprehend and, when possible, utilize the Grafana product and ecosystem to address corporate engineering challenges. Open-source our solutions for the benefit of other Grafana users.

• Serve as a leader within the larger Foundations department, collaborating with all other platform, business application, and security teams.

• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, coaching, and mentoring to keep team members motivated, satisfied, and engaged. Provide ongoing feedback to ensure they can contribute value while upholding high standards.

• Engage in team activities. Participate in all work queues. Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming projects, ensuring projects are well-defined and ready for development. You will also be part of your team’s and department's on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience managing a software engineering operations team. You possess a solid engineering background and can engage in technical discussions, guiding teams to make strong technical decisions independently. You have a thorough understanding of at least one cloud provider and a working knowledge of Kubernetes.

• Extensive hands-on experience in managing and automating corporate IT systems commonly used by modern tech companies, encompassing various operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, Android), SSO (Okta, 1Password), workplace productivity tools (Google Workspace, Office), MDM (Jamf, Intune, FleetDM, Kolide), EDR, DLP, typical corporate SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Zendesk), AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor, Google, etc.), and managing employee laptops and devices.

• You approach IT and corporate security with a DevOps mindset, favoring enablement, automation, and guardrails over barriers and roadblocks. You have experience providing internal platforms to other teams and view IT as a provider of tools, platforms, and automation, rather than merely a ticket-taking service.

• Familiarity with the current state of AI technology and strong ideas on how to leverage it effectively and safely across the enterprise, enabling experimentation rather than confining the organization to outdated technology.

• A profound curiosity about software, security, and the present and future states of technology. You keep your teams ahead of the curve.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are comfortable collaborating with engineering teams that possess a strong sense of autonomy in their decision-making, guiding through influence.

• Availability to work Eastern Time-oriented hours. Grafana Labs is a global company, and we aim to maximize overlap time with our EMEA colleagues.
