Senior Engineering Manager – BE/ML, Context & Personalisation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Leading and mentoring a diverse team of backend and machine learning engineers to develop Canva's context and personalization systems.

• Establishing and executing the strategy and roadmap for Canva's centralized context platform and personalization infrastructure.

• Creating features such as AI Memory, custom instructions, and brand-aware AI generation that enhance the personal touch of Canva AI.

• Designing scalable APIs and platform fundamentals that enable internal teams at Canva to swiftly and securely develop AI-driven experiences.

• Collaborating closely with Product and Design leaders to pinpoint high-impact opportunities to enhance Canva AI experiences.

• Promoting the adoption of context and personalization capabilities throughout Canva's ecosystem, from editor experiences to enterprise functionalities.

• Nurturing and developing a high-performing engineering team while encouraging robust cross-team collaboration.

⛳️ Requirements

• You are a seasoned engineering leader with experience in building or scaling platform systems, developer infrastructure, or shared services.

• You possess a strong technical background combined with product-oriented thinking, and you enjoy proactively shaping challenges rather than waiting for guidelines.

• You have experience in or adjacent to AI, machine learning, recommendation systems, or data-driven platforms.

• You are adept at navigating high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments, particularly in emerging technology domains.

• You are passionate about nurturing engineers and creating high-performing teams that influence strategy rather than just execute it.

• You are curious about the evolving landscape of AI and actively engage with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot.

• Nice to have (but not essential):

• Experience in developing context systems, recommendation engines, or personalization pipelines.

• Experience working on platforms that cater to multiple internal teams or product surfaces.

• Experience functioning in high-growth product environments that balance platform investment with feature delivery.
