Senior Employment Counsel, APAC

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Asia.

📋 Description

• Deliver strategic and commercially viable counsel on employment law issues within the APAC region.

• Provide guidance on everyday employment concerns for Canva’s employee and contingent workforce, including performance management, terminations, investigations, and compliance with regulations.

• Collaborate closely with People, Total Rewards, Finance, and other essential stakeholders to facilitate Canva’s growth and adapt to its evolving workforce model.

• Assist in the creation and execution of scalable employment frameworks, policies, processes, and advisory materials.

• Recognize and manage legal risks associated with employment while supporting Canva’s growth and operational goals.

• Offer practical training and guidance to People teams and business leaders.

• Work alongside Employment Legal colleagues globally on international matters, strategic initiatives, and common priorities.

• Oversee employment disputes, claims, and regulatory inquiries, collaborating with external counsel when necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• Must be admitted to practice in Australia or an equivalent jurisdiction.

• Have a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience specializing in employment law, acquired in a top-tier law firm and/or in an in-house legal team (preferably in the tech sector).

• Experience in multiple jurisdictions or within a multinational setting is highly valued.

• Proven track record of advising senior stakeholders on intricate employment and employee relations issues.

• Ability to effectively balance legal risks with commercial realities and people considerations.

• Exceptional judgment and comfort in navigating a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the skill to simplify complex legal concepts into actionable advice.
