This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for IoT and video streaming products.
• Take ownership of significant firmware components and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from design to production.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Cloud, Mobile, QA, and ODM partners to ensure effective system integration and successful product delivery.
• Develop and integrate device drivers, communication protocols, RTOS components, and platform firmware.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to firmware, hardware, and system-level operations.
• Optimize firmware for enhanced performance, reduced memory usage, lower power consumption, and improved system reliability.
• Review board schematics, component datasheets, and hardware documentation to facilitate firmware development and debugging.
• Engage in design reviews, code reviews, and root-cause analysis to elevate software quality.
• Assess new SoCs, image sensors, wireless modules, and additional hardware components for future product development.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to best practices and continuous improvements within engineering processes.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is advantageous, or equivalent industry experience.
• Over 7 years of experience in embedded firmware development, ideally with IoT, networking, or video streaming products.
• Proficient programming skills in Embedded C and C++.
• Experience in software development on RTOS and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Strong understanding of real-time multimedia applications, including video/audio processing, compression, and streaming technologies such as H.264/H.265.
• Experience in developing multithreaded and multitasking embedded software.
• Proven experience in developing and debugging embedded device drivers.
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills in embedded systems.
• Experience in optimizing embedded software for performance and resource efficiency.
• Familiarity with networking protocols, including TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, SIP, and WebRTC.
• Experience with wireless communication technologies, including Wi-Fi, BLE, and LTE.
• Knowledge of IoT communication architectures and cloud-connected devices.
• Practical experience using hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
• Familiarity with source control systems such as Git.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
