This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Curate our home design content: The initial task is to discover homes to feature. Projects should encompass everything from historically accurate preservation efforts to renovations that thoughtfully modernize older homes, as well as high-performance new constructions. Throughout the year, you will showcase residences from various eras, styles, and regions across the country.
• Create house-tour videos: Collaborating with a video team, you will produce documentary-style videos on the projects you uncover. Your responsibilities will include writing the script, assisting in directing the shoots, and hosting our home design video series.
• Write articles for print about homes: Partnering with the print team, you will explore an old house, a new house, or a home design theme in each issue of the magazine. These articles will be both inspirational and informative for our discerning audience, delving deeply into the key elements that contributed to the success of the projects.
• Initiate and host a home design podcast: In collaboration with the editorial director and digital editors, you will create and host a new podcast that highlights the most knowledgeable and captivating home design enthusiasts from around the nation.
• Report on products for home design aficionados: You’ll assemble a team of writers to identify and report on building materials, fixtures, and other products, encompassing both elements that enhance old house projects and features that make new homes distinctive.
• Participate in and present at events: FHB is present at all significant building events; your focus will be on covering home design events and eventually speaking at them.
• Demonstrated writing ability: A minimum of three years of experience writing about homes and home design, ideally for a newspaper, magazine, or website, though we will also consider bloggers.
• Enthusiasm for the subject: Whether you hold a degree in architecture, have hands-on jobsite experience, or simply possess a strong passion, you are excited about houses, residential design, and remodeling, and can communicate effectively in this field.
• Team-oriented approach: You are comfortable collaborating with others, know when to seek assistance or feedback, and prioritize the quality of work over personal pride.
• Dependability: You consistently meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and seek help when necessary.
• Skills in photography and video: While not mandatory, it is a significant advantage if you can capture high-quality still images, edit basic videos, or are open to learning. A willingness to appear on video is a strong plus, and being prepared to host a podcast is essential.
• Active Interest Media values diversity in the workplace and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.
