Senior Director, SIS Platform and Development

📋 Description

• Establish the highest levels of trust with all partners by delivering technical expertise, operational knowledge, and a combination of technical and business insight.

• Maintain a continuous understanding of institutional needs and market trends/opportunities.

• Stay updated on vendor roadmaps and advancements, monitor alternative and cutting-edge technologies, and engage in discussions about future state options.

• Collaborate with business and technical team members to evaluate ideas across the ecosystem.

• Cultivate a comprehensive understanding of critical interdependencies and system integrations.

• Provide options and recommendations for major decisions based on sound reasoning and data through an objective perspective.

• Lead initiatives in development (including standards), automation technologies, AI, reporting, and data consistency/improvement.

• Oversee team capacity and ensure prioritization and timely delivery.

• Supervise the development of essential operational responsibilities and processes.

• Encourage the team's knowledge growth as new technologies and opportunities arise.

• Assist team members in maintaining awareness and assessing future-oriented and alternative technologies.

• Ensure proper training, mentoring, performance management, and community building to support team members' professional growth.

• Collaborate with Human Resources to facilitate career progression planning.

• Promote the development of cross-team solutions and effective communications.

• Foster a "customer-focused" approach to operations and communications.

• Exhibit collaborative management behaviors and styles, employing techniques to motivate individuals, set goals/timelines, ensure accountability, and deliver timely and constructive performance feedback for collective success.

• Work collaboratively across technical and business teams to identify key system pain points.

• Advocate for solutions that enhance SIS and cross-system performance, scalability, and data integrity.

• Refine and implement impact analysis processes across integrated environments, addressing performance and integration challenges.

• Collaborate with SIS technical resources, vendors, and internal partners to provide solutions for complex technical scenarios.

• Support diagnostics for technical issues related to the SIS platform.

• Lead cross-functional teams during critical diagnostic and remediation efforts, which may occur after hours or on weekends.

• Collaborate to support API and API extension documentation and cross-platform comprehension.

• Provide leadership in critical vendor oversight, including contract negotiation and management, engagement management, and budget/resource management.

• Supervise and guide complex data remediation and synchronization efforts, including cross-platform analysis and collaboration.

• Aid team members in understanding and supporting functional (configuration-based) solutions.

• Cultivate a well-defined shared ownership with architecture, data, and infrastructure teams.

• Create audit processes to identify and eliminate unused or deprecated elements.

• Assume responsibility and oversight for the SIS environments (working with the vendor for hosted systems).

• Lead environment change and refresh activities.

• Support ITIL-based incident and problem management, patch/system maintenance, and runbook development/upkeep.

• Guide script development and establish reporting standards.

• Enhance team members' involvement in testing activities.

• Ensure a seamless transition of solutions from implementation to production/operational status.

• Provide clear, well-articulated written and verbal updates.

• Other responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience, including oversight of the technical aspects of an SIS (e.g., Ellucian/Banner).

• Proven experience leading a team of 5+ direct reports.

• Familiarity with integrations and cross-system collaboration and solutioning.

• Experience managing budgets and contract negotiations exceeding $5MM.

• Background in managing program management and leading large projects across teams.

• Experience in leading technical (system) transformation efforts within enterprise-level systems.

• Proven ability in up-skilling team career/skill development.

• Experience working across business and technical domains; demonstrated ability in business-facing prioritization.

• Experience in developing technical overviews, business cases, and proposals.

• Proficiency with both embedded AI components and cross-system AI usage/coordination; direct experience preferred.
