Senior Director of Cyber Defense Architecture – Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the strategy, design, engineering, and ongoing enhancement of enterprise detection, response, and threat mitigation capabilities.

• Develop or integrate robust, intelligence-led, automated cyber defense platforms across endpoint, network, cloud, identity, data, and SaaS environments.

• Design, implement, manage, and sustain information security frameworks, processes, and systems.

• Define and execute a cyber defense architecture strategy that aligns with the threat landscape and risk appetite of the enterprise.

• Create layered defense models and establish detection engineering standards and reference architectures.

• Enable a Zero Trust monitoring and enforcement architecture.

• Present the maturity of defense posture, risk trends, and strategic roadmaps to executive leadership.

• Establish the enterprise detection engineering program and assess new tools and technologies.

• Define logging standards and telemetry requirements.

• Oversee the lifecycle management of use cases and standardize MITRE ATT&CK mapping.

• Minimize false positives while enhancing true-positive detection rates.

• Lead the architecture and engineering of SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, NDR, email security, deception, threat intelligence, and security analytics platforms.

• Drive automation, AI/ML integration, policy-as-code, automated containment, and remediation workflows.

• Collaborate with Incident Response and Cyber Counter Adversary leadership.

• Support purple team exercises, breach simulations, and continuous control monitoring.

• Incorporate threat intelligence into engineering roadmaps and translate threat actor activities into detection content and control enhancements.

• Integrate defense controls across public cloud, hybrid data centers, SaaS, enterprise networks, endpoints, mobile, and OT/IoT environments.

• Assist in M&A security integrations and the disentanglement of divestitures.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, SOX, FDA/GxP, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

• Establish KPIs, OKRs, performance dashboards, and control validation frameworks.

• Report measurable defense maturity to executive and senior leadership.

• Lead a global team of detection engineers, platform engineers, and automation specialists.

• Create engineering career paths and succession planning strategies.

• Manage enterprise financial planning while monitoring information security trends to recommend strategic updates.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information security, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.

• A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another related discipline, or equivalent related experience is preferred.

• A minimum of 12 years of directly-related or relevant experience.

• At least 8 years in a managerial role, ideally within information security.

• Preferred certifications include CCSP, CISSP, OSCP, GCIA, GCED, GCIH, CISM, CISA, ITIL, and PMP.

• Familiarity with IT risk management, IT controls, cyber attack mitigation, enterprise IT management, network security, service level maintenance, information security strategy continuity, and threat modeling.

• Understanding of security standards such as SOX, ISO 27001/27002, COBIT, ITIL, NIST, and PCI.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Knowledge of security tools including CSPM, CWPP, CDR, CNAPP, SIEM, EDR, email security gateways, SOAR, firewalls, antivirus, VPN, IDS/IPS, AV, and proxies.

• Familiarity with security testing tools, threat intelligence tools, and vulnerability testing tools.
