Senior Director, Intellectual Property

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee and provide guidance on designated patent portfolios

• Collaborate with external legal counsel on patent submissions

• Assist with routine portfolio assessments

• Partner with the VP of IP and other internal stakeholders

• Offer intellectual property support for agreement drafting

• Spearhead intellectual property due diligence efforts

• Work closely with teams on emerging data initiatives

• Supervise external IP counsel on assigned cases

• Aid in the creation of scalable intellectual property processes

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school

• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is required or highly preferred

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related life sciences field is necessary

• An advanced degree in chemistry, biology, or another related life sciences discipline is strongly preferred

• Around 10+ years of pertinent experience in intellectual property

• Extensive in-house and/or law firm experience within the biopharmaceutical industry

• Strong background in patent portfolio management, global patent prosecution, external counsel management, and patent strategy

• Experience in supporting IP aspects of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts

• Experience advising R&D or technical teams on invention capture and patent protection
