Senior Director, DevOps, AppSec

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the DevOps and platform engineering strategy across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, secrets, and developer self-service.

• Lead, mentor, and enhance a high-performing team of DevOps engineers, which includes hiring, leveling, performance management, and succession planning.

• Act as a player-coach: remain engaged with the technical work, contribute to architecture and code reviews, and step in during incidents when necessary.

• Collaborate with Security, Data, Product Engineering, and Architecture to integrate security and compliance into the SDLC (DevSecOps).

• Take ownership of the cloud cost (FinOps) strategy for the platforms within your purview and drive ongoing, measurable improvements.

• Make informed build-vs-buy decisions regarding the DevOps tooling stack and manage key vendor relationships.

• Thoughtfully integrate AI into engineering workflows where it can provide significant leverage.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps, including more than 8 years in management and experience leading distributed or global teams.

• Proven track record of building and managing modern cloud platforms at scale — AWS is highly preferred; experience with multi-cloud or hybrid environments is a plus.

• Extensive, up-to-date technical expertise in CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar), container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar), observability, and secrets management.

• Strong instincts in DevSecOps — you have successfully implemented genuine security enhancements without compromising engineering velocity.

• Experience managing compliance work from start to finish (SOC 2, PCI, GDPR, HIPAA, or similar) in collaboration with Security and Audit teams.

• Proven ability to design for efficiency: lean teams, self-service platforms, and effective demand management in partnership with the organizations you support.

• Nice to have: Experience in a data, analytics, or insights business, and prior experience scaling a DevOps team from single digits to the 15–30 range.
