This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the comprehensive on-premise to public cloud migration strategy, which includes wave planning, sequencing, readiness validation, cutover, stabilization, milestones, exit criteria, and success metrics.
• Lead the assessment and disposition of the application portfolio, creating business cases and target architectures for each migration wave.
• Design and manage secure, multi-account cloud foundations that encompass landing zones, identity, networking, compute, storage, and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application engineering, security, networking, finance, and vendors to ensure migration waves are on schedule.
• Decommission the on-premise infrastructure and provide updates on progress, risks, and dependencies to executive leadership.
• Operate the cloud platform as an internal product, delivering optimized paths for service creation, CI/CD, secrets management, observability, and security.
• Oversee GitLab source control and CI/CD standards, Kubernetes manifests, and GitOps delivery utilizing Argo CD.
• Promote infrastructure as code and policy as code, removing manual configuration and drift.
• Enhance containerized microservices and serverless architectures on AWS.
• Evaluate and enhance developer experience using DORA metrics, time-to-first-deploy, platform adoption, and feedback from developers.
• Collaborate on software-defined workflows utilizing Temporal.
• Establish the SRE charter, which includes SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident response, postmortems, and disaster recovery.
• Integrate monitoring into a unified observability framework across metrics, logs, traces, and alerts using OpenTelemetry and structured logging.
• Lead the rationalization of the observability platform, telemetry governance, agent fleet management, and cost control.
• Foster proactive, data-driven observability while reducing MTTD and MTTR.
• Embed security and compliance by design through IAM, secrets management, encryption, and continuous control monitoring.
• Manage cloud network architecture, including VPCs, segmentation, transit connectivity, private links, DNS, and load balancing.
• Operate Cloudflare edge protection for WAF, DDoS mitigation, bot management, and DNS.
• Integrate Okta and Microsoft Entra into platform access patterns.
• Collaborate with the CISO organization on cloud security posture, audit preparedness, and operational risk management.
• Establish transparency in cloud costs, tagging, showback/chargeback, forecasting, and workload unit economics.
• Manage relationships with cloud, observability, and tooling vendors, including contracts, commitments, and renewals.
• Build and nurture a global team encompassing cloud engineering, platform engineering, SRE, and network engineering.
• Set engineering standards through architecture review, code review, and active participation.
• Define boundaries for platform/product ownership and engagement models.
• Communicate technical trade-offs to technical, non-technical, and executive stakeholders.
• Advocate for AI-assisted engineering, AI-driven operations, and enterprise AI, GenAI, and analytics workloads.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering, including at least 5 years in leadership roles overseeing engineers and engineering managers.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale migrations from on-premise to public cloud or data center exits within complex, matrixed organizations.
• Demonstrated experience in building or operating an internal developer platform at scale, with tangible evidence of its adoption.
• Proficient in reading and writing Terraform, pipeline configurations, and Kubernetes manifests.
• Extensive knowledge of Kubernetes is essential, with a preference for EKS and experience with GitOps delivery patterns.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, including VPC architecture, segmentation, native load balancing, DNS, and hybrid connectivity.
• Experience in cloud security and edge protection, such as WAF and DDoS prevention.
• A history of driving adoption and facilitating significant organizational change, with a comfort level in ambiguous situations.
• Ability to articulate complex technical information to technical, non-technical, and executive audiences.
• Preferred technical stack experience includes AWS, Azure, Kubernetes/EKS, Argo CD, Helm, Lambda, GitLab, Terraform, policy as code, DynamoDB, Secrets Manager, ALB/NLB, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, Cloudflare, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Power BI, New Relic, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Temporal, ServiceNow, Okta, Microsoft Entra, and Python.
