Senior Designer, Social

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Oversee the visual strategy for social-first content and campaigns, crafting compelling conceptual ideas that set the brand apart and perform effectively across various platforms.

• Create and produce social-first assets tailored for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and emerging channels, ensuring that each piece of content is native to the platform, aligns with the brand, and meets the highest quality standards.

• Generate visual concepts that adapt across multiple touchpoints, including social formats, digital displays, CRM, OOH, and POS as necessary.

• Advocate for conceptual thinking throughout the creative workflow, from briefing to execution, ensuring design solutions are founded on insights and purpose rather than mere decoration.

• Direct photography, video, and content shoots, steering the visual treatment, styling, and composition to authentically and inclusively reflect the brand's identity.

• Develop, mentor, and guide designers and content creators within the studio, promoting a culture of social-first excellence, collaborative feedback, and ongoing improvement.

• Work alongside strategists, copywriters, social media managers, and the client’s brand team to create integrated campaign assets that are visually cohesive and strategically aligned.

• Convert brand guidelines into unique, ownable executions that resonate with diverse audiences and are relevant to the platforms and cultural contexts in which they appear.

• Lead the thoughtful incorporation of Gen AI tools into the design and content creation process, utilizing them to enhance ideation, exploration, and production while maintaining craft and authenticity.

• Initiate platform-specific design projects that capitalize on the unique strengths and visual languages of each social channel.

• Remain informed about social platform algorithms, features, design trends, and audience behaviors to ensure visual outputs stay relevant and distinctive.

• Oversee multiple projects with varying timelines, formats, and platform requirements, ensuring quality and consistency even under pressure.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of design experience, showcasing strong examples of social-first design thinking and execution for consumer brands.

• Profound understanding of social platform behaviors, content formats, and visual performance factors across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and emerging channels.

• Strong conceptual skills, with a proven history of developing significant ideas that translate into impactful visual work across various touchpoints.

• Proficient in visual storytelling, capable of conveying brand purpose, emotion, and product messaging through design that feels authentic and culturally relevant.

• Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and Figma, with robust proficiency in producing assets at social speed.

• Experience in art directing photography, video, or content shoots, with an eye for composition, styling, and inclusive visual representation.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor designers and content creators, providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and creative inspiration.

• Experience in creating native content and design systems for primary social platforms, with knowledge of specifications, safe zones, and format best practices.

• A talent for presenting concepts to clients and stakeholders with clear rationale and conviction.

• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, balancing quality, speed, and competing priorities.

• Understanding of inclusive design and visual representation, with experience or a strong interest in producing work that authentically reflects diverse audiences.
