Senior Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• You set the standard for UI quality throughout the product. You identify imperfections, suggest solutions, and implement enhancements, often independently, without waiting for a ticket.

• Take charge of final details: ensure consistent spacing, smooth transitions, and interactions that feel natural. If anything seems slightly off in the product, it falls within your responsibilities.

• Develop high-quality UI components and interactions that bridge the gap between the design vision and the final product delivered.

• Assist designers in translating their work into code. Create the workflows and tools that transform designer-created prototypes into structured foundations for engineers and AI agents to build from directly.

• Establish the handoff layer between design and engineering by organizing and structuring designer-generated code, ensuring it integrates smoothly into agent workflows or is easily picked up by the engineering team without requiring rework.

• Sustain and enhance our design system: create components, document design patterns, and ensure consistent application of the system throughout a complex, data-intensive product.

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to define possibilities and elevate the visual and functional aspects of Juniper Square's product.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in both design and front-end engineering, with a portfolio showcasing strong craftsmanship in shipped work.

• Proficient front-end engineering skills (TypeScript, React, CSS, animations) and the capacity to write clean, maintainable code.

• Comfortable working in both Figma and a code editor, knowing when to utilize each tool and transitioning seamlessly between them.

• A keen sense of aesthetics. You notice details that others overlook and are committed to achieving perfection from 90% to 100%.

• Experience contributing to or working with a Design System, including creating components and documenting patterns.

• Proven ability to rapidly prototype, transitioning from concept to high-fidelity, functional implementation quickly.

• Proficient in using AI-powered coding tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, or their equivalents) as an integral part of your workflow.

• Excellent written and visual communication skills, with the ability to convey design and implementation choices to cross-functional team members.
