This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the daily operations of Azure SQL Managed Instance environments, which includes monitoring performance, troubleshooting blocking and long-running queries, managing index and statistics maintenance, as well as SQL Agent job oversight.
• Monitor, triage, and restart Azure Data Factory pipeline executions; comprehend ETL dependencies and resolve integration failures among ADF, SQL MI, and Azure Storage.
• Manage the execution and re-runs of SSIS packages, encompassing HR/personnel integration processes and diagnosing common failure patterns.
• Provide support for Azure infrastructure operations, including App Services, App Service Environments, deployment slots, WebJobs, Storage Accounts, and certificate lifecycle management.
• Validate and test database backups, restores, and job chains to guarantee recoverability.
• Continuously assess manual operational tasks across the data stack and prioritize them for automation.
• Design and implement automation solutions utilizing PowerShell, Python, Azure Automation, Logic Apps, or Azure Functions to reduce repetitive manual tasks.
• Develop self-healing pipeline patterns in ADF and Azure DevOps, incorporating automatic retry logic, alerting, and recovery runbooks.
• Construct and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for data platform and infrastructure deployments.
• Engage in regular customer and internal EverOps scrums.
• Diagnose and distinguish between issues at the application layer, data platform layer, and infrastructure layer.
• Generate high-quality daily operational reports and documentation.
• Participate in the off-hours on-call rotation and execute planned off-hours maintenance as necessary.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a DBA, DataOps Engineer, or Platform/Site Reliability Engineer with a strong focus on data.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, which includes SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, App Services, and Azure Storage.
• A robust background in MSSQL administration, covering performance tuning, backup/restore operations, and SQL Agent job management.
• Experience working on or directly supporting a platform team within an enterprise setting.
• Practical experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines for data platform and infrastructure deployments.
• Proficient scripting skills in PowerShell, T-SQL, Python, or Bash for operational automation.
• Demonstrated capability in identifying manual toil in a data or operations environment and implementing automation as a replacement.
• Hands-on experience with at least one Azure automation tool, such as Azure Automation Runbooks, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or Event Grid.
• Clear and concise written communication skills, capable of producing standalone daily operational reports and shift handoffs.
• Ability to make independent troubleshooting decisions during off-hours on-call coverage.
• Strong pattern recognition skills for operational troubleshooting across data, application, and infrastructure layers.
