Senior Database Reliability Engineer, DBRE

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take the lead and assume full responsibility for our primary database systems to guarantee optimal performance, availability, and security.

• Relay essential data modifications to the data warehousing team.

• Collaborate with both engineering and data teams to guide schema changes from conception to implementation, ensuring compatibility with architecture and downstream processes.

• Create and uphold automated testing and deployment data pipelines, including large-scale production-level data testing with SRE and DevOps teams.

• Actively identify areas of concern and integrate them into automated monitoring and production alerting in collaboration with our Cloud Ops teams.

• Document and automate procedures to reduce time spent on repetitive tasks.

• Assess new database features (and products, if necessary) to satisfy scalability and global uptime demands.

• Manage database backup and recovery processes, and assist in establishing disaster recovery targets and practices as systems expand.

• Provide support, troubleshoot, and conduct root cause analysis on production database issues, participating in incident response as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in managing MySQL/CloudSQL at scale.

• Proficient in SQL and specific aspects of MySQL, including schema design.

• Extensive knowledge of MySQL internals.

• Strong grasp of MySQL replication, SQL tuning, and database optimization while minimizing downtime.

• Experience in operating Google Cloud Spanner at scale, encompassing schema design and query optimization.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Bonus points for:

• Experience in the payments sector (or related industry).

• Familiarity with the GCP toolset.

• Experience with infrastructure as code.

• Knowledge of Redis.

• Experience with global, multi-region deployments, including sharding.
