This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada, +1 more state.
• Create, develop, test, and sustain scalable, secure relational database solutions tailored for cloud-native and enterprise applications.
• Construct logical and physical data models, schemas, tables, relationships, constraints, indexes, and partitioning strategies.
• Develop and manage SQL, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and other database components.
• Optimize database performance across SQL, indexing, schema design, execution plans, configuration, storage, and capacity.
• Collaborate with software engineers to enhance query efficiency, transaction behavior, concurrency, and scalability.
• Strategize and execute database migrations, upgrades, schema modifications, and platform modernization initiatives.
• Implement and support backup and recovery, replication, high availability, security, access controls, monitoring, auditing, and capacity planning.
• Automate database provisioning, configuration, schema deployment, maintenance, and operational workflows using infrastructure as code, scripting, CI/CD, and cloud-native tools.
• Diagnose and resolve database performance, locking, connectivity, availability, and data integrity issues across development, testing, and production environments.
• Convert customer and application requirements into data models, database designs, engineering tasks, and implementation plans.
• Assess new database technologies when relevant.
• Proficient in advanced SQL and relational database design, including data modeling, normalization and denormalization, indexing, constraints, transactions, and schema design.
• Significant hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and one or more additional enterprise relational database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Strong background in database development involving stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, schema versioning, and database change management.
• Experience in troubleshooting and tuning workloads utilizing execution plans, query analysis, indexing strategies, statistics, locking and concurrency analysis, and configuration tuning.
• Familiarity with designing and managing databases in AWS, including Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, security, encryption, and access controls.
• Experience with Python or Bash and automation tools like Terraform, AWS CDK/CloudFormation, or equivalent is a strong advantage.
• A BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Over 5 years of experience in database engineering, administration, or data platform engineering with substantial hands-on responsibility for production relational database systems.
• Experience in designing, developing, tuning, and managing production relational database systems, including AWS workloads.
• Expertise in Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Experience in migrating Oracle or SQL Server databases to PostgreSQL.
• Experience configuring and optimizing PostGIS for GIS and spatial workloads.
• Experience in designing and implementing HA/DR architectures using Aurora Multi-AZ, read replicas, cross-region replication, automated failover, backup and recovery, and RTO/RPO strategies.
• Experience in database change management including blue/green deployments, logical replication, staged cutovers, validation gates, rollback planning, and near-zero-downtime transitions.
