Back-end Developer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain high-availability banking systems using Java and Quarkus, leveraging a microservices architecture and messaging services (SQS/SNS).

• Create and implement both single-agent and multi-agent AI systems to execute business tasks efficiently.

• Orchestrate tool interactions, establish scopes of action, enforce security policies, and set autonomy limits.

• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) via API into backend systems, employing techniques such as RAG, function calling, context memory, and MCP.

• Utilize prompt engineering to enhance code generation and refine agent behavior design.

• Review and debug code generated by agents/AI, identifying logical errors, hallucinations, and edge cases.

• Take the lead on custom implementations when automation is inadequate.

• Design and validate Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) of agentic solutions in collaboration with business stakeholders.

• Build observability and evaluation mechanisms for agents in production, including logging, tracing, and metrics.

• Identify security vulnerabilities and implement protective measures, including output validation and human-in-the-loop controls.

• Develop unit and integration tests utilizing Maven and Git.

• Collaborate with product, technology, and business teams to convert operational challenges into scalable agentic solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Degree completed or currently pursuing in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong backend development experience with Java and Quarkus, or Spring, with a willingness to transition.

• Practical experience in building AI agents or applications utilizing LLMs.

• Understanding of tool orchestration, RAG, memory management, and agent evaluation methodologies.

• Familiarity with MCP and function calling/tool usage with APIs such as Claude or OpenAI.

• Expertise in prompt engineering and establishing agent guardrails.

• Experience with relational databases, specifically MySQL and PostgreSQL.

• Proficient in NoSQL databases such as Redis and MongoDB.

• Preferably experienced with vector databases like pgvector, Pinecone, or Weaviate for RAG applications.

• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture using AWS SQS and SNS.

• Proficient in unit and integration testing, Git, Maven, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Ability to comprehend technical documentation in English.

• Strong communication skills in Portuguese or English.

• Self-motivated and proactive in a fully remote work environment.

• Differentials: familiarity with observability of LLMs/agents, contributions to open-source projects related to LLM tooling, and experience in fintech or regulated banking systems.
