Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and oversee data architectures and database platforms across GCP and Azure.

• Work collaboratively with software, systems, DevOps, business, analytics, and data science teams.

• Shape the architecture of essential data platforms while ensuring operational excellence, security, reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

• Contribute to technology roadmaps and architectural enhancements for InfoSec, data platforms, and disaster recovery/business continuity.

• Migrate and transform data stores for strategic initiatives.

• Assist in daily data system operations and information security projects.

• Define, maintain, and execute data engineering processes and best practices.

• Optimize, maintain, and tune production database systems.

• Develop and sustain a self-healing database platform utilizing AI-driven observability and monitoring tools.

• Aid in the modernization and centralization of the database infrastructure.

• Provide database operations support for SQL Server and PostgreSQL, which includes SQL scripting, managing database objects, and troubleshooting.

• Oversee, patch, upgrade, and monitor PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases on GCP and Azure.

• Configure and manage backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.

• Design, manage, and monitor BigQuery data warehouse schemas, queries, and cost/slot usage.

• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

• Support CI/CD workflows for database modifications, ADF pipelines, and infrastructure deployments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Systems Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in data engineering and/or database administration, with direct involvement in production database platforms.

• Expertise in creating data structures and a strong grasp of technical design principles.

• Practical experience with BigQuery, Compute Engine, and Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL and SQL Server) in GCP.

• Hands-on experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Database, and/or SQL Server on Azure VMs.

• Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery, backup/restore, and performance tuning.

• Working knowledge of version control and CI/CD tools, including Git, Azure DevOps, and Cloud Build.

• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, SSIS/SSRS in Azure, and Dataflow/Dataproc in GCP.

• Strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and partners.

• Experience with Agile or similar methodologies is preferred.

• Background in supporting AI/ML platforms and integrating AI-driven data solutions.

• Unix scripting experience is essential.

• Proven track record of working with US-based business teams.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to work during core US business hours / overlap with Eastern Standard Time.

• 8 working hours excluding breaks, which includes 4 core US hours overlapping from 7:30 PM–11:30 PM IST and 4 flexible hours.
