Senior Database Consultant, PostgreSQL

📋 Description

• Deliver comprehensive support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure to a varied client base.

• Coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and manage IT solutions, including the configuration and ongoing maintenance of database servers.

• Evaluate client infrastructure and processes, suggesting best practices to improve current operational procedures.

• Oversee backup strategies and disaster recovery planning.

• Manage backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and the recovery of corrupted databases.

• Develop and assess action plans for maintenance, deployment, and upgrades.

• Create, implement, and sustain intricate data architectures.

• Lead problem management initiatives by identifying recurring patterns in incidents.

• Participate equally in the on-call rotation of the team, usually one weekend per month.

• Establish, manage, and fulfill client commitments in cooperation with team members.

• Prepare reports on client status and incidents.

• Ensure alignment with client operating procedures.

• Engage in and occasionally lead initiatives to propose, recommend, and possibly design/implement new monitoring checks, enhancements to DBC toolkits, and other process improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Knowledge and experience in installing, configuring, and upgrading PostgreSQL databases and relevant tools for PostgreSQL Administration.

• Experience administering PostgreSQL in virtualized and cloud environments, particularly AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Proficiency in scripting (bash/python) and software development (C++, Java, Go).

• Familiarity with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, and SALT.

• Strong debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot methodically, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, while having the capacity to think creatively to resolve complex issues when necessary.

• Excellent documentation skills.

• Preferred qualifications include an understanding of current IT service standards like ITIL.

• Participation in projects related to PostgreSQL or other database or infrastructure software is a plus.

• Hands-on experience in monitoring PostgreSQL databases using industry-standard tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds, pgAdmin, Zabbix, Nagios, and Datadog.

• Familiarity with cloud-native and managed database monitoring tools, including AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Operations (Stackdriver), and Azure Monitor.

• Experience in setting up, configuring, and administering PostgreSQL on Kubernetes is a nice-to-have.

• Knowledge of monitoring and observability solutions with Prometheus and Grafana is a plus.

• Experience with High Availability (HA) solutions for PostgreSQL, including Patroni and repmgr, is required.

• Experience with PostgreSQL backup tools, such as Barman, pgBackRest, pg_basebackup, etc., is required.

• Experience in database migrations from various database engines, including Oracle, MySQL, and MSSQL, to PostgreSQL.

• Experience migrating between on-premises and cloud-based databases.

• Experience in analyzing and optimizing schema conversions, SQL compatibility issues, and performance tuning post-migration.
