Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Oversee database administration and optimization — manage maintenance, patching, and upgrades across our database ecosystem; spearhead performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization for mission-critical, high-throughput systems.

• Ensure reliability, backup, and recovery — design and implement backup/recovery strategies, replication, and disaster recovery planning to ensure stability and data integrity for payment processing workloads.

• Embrace Infrastructure as Code — automate database provisioning and maintenance using Terraform, adhering to the same IaC practices as the broader infrastructure team.

• Facilitate data migration and conversion — plan and carry out complex data migration and conversion routines for production systems, ensuring successful completion with minimal risk and downtime.

• Monitor performance — develop dashboards, alerts, and monitors that highlight database health and performance issues before they escalate into incidents.

• Provide technical leadership — mentor engineers on best practices for databases, offer expertise on deployment and architecture planning, and proactively communicate risks, issues, and next steps to the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Over 4 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production settings.

• Extensive expertise in PostgreSQL — including performance tuning, indexing strategies, replication, and query optimization at scale.

• Proficient in AWS — solid experience with RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3; understanding of networking fundamentals for database connectivity.

• Experience with CDC (Change Data Capture) integrations.

• Knowledge of database security — including access controls, encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, and compliance best practices for sensitive payment data.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code — Terraform experience preferred, especially with infrastructure reviewed in pull requests rather than configured via consoles.

• Proficient in Python for automation and scripting tasks.

• Proven experience in backup/recovery and disaster recovery planning for critical systems.

• Skills in debugging distributed systems — experience diagnosing data-related issues and cascading failures in production environments.

• Advanced proficiency in English is required.
