This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Deliver expert-level management and performance optimization for enterprise Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database environments.
• Spearhead the design, deployment, and maintenance of highly available database architectures, including clustering, replication, and Always On availability groups.
• Oversee the migration of on-premises databases to AWS, encompassing RDS, EC2-hosted, or GovCloud environments.
• Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes, including RTO/RPO validation.
• Implement and uphold database security measures, covering access management, encryption, and auditing, in line with NIST SP 800-53 and agency security policies.
• Monitor database performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks that impact mission applications.
• Mentor and offer technical support to junior database administrators.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, data architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to facilitate system releases, patching, and change management.
• Support Koniag IT Systems, LLC and its federal civilian government client with crucial financial and case-management systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise-scale environments.
• Expert-level expertise in administering Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle database platforms.
• Proven experience leading enterprise database deployments, upgrades, or migrations.
• Practical experience with database high availability and disaster recovery architectures.
• Experience in migrating or managing databases in AWS (RDS or self-managed on EC2/GovCloud).
• Strong knowledge of database security, auditing, and compliance requirements within a federal context.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce technical documentation.
• Capability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
• Superior communication skills with the aptitude to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Desired: Experience in a federal government IT environment.
• Desired: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or AWS Database Specialty certification.
• Desired: Experience supporting financial, loan-servicing, or capital-access database systems.
• Desired: Familiarity with database automation and monitoring tools, such as SQL Server Agent, Oracle Enterprise Manager, or third-party solutions.
