This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Accountable for the planning, design, implementation, and upkeep of moderately complex database environments.
• Ensure the recoverability and security of database environments.
• Plan and oversee the capacity of the database environments.
• Monitor performance of databases and servers; offer analysis and solutions for performance challenges.
• Strategize and implement changes within the systems adhering to the policies and procedures established by Information Services.
• Proactively detect potential issues and devise solutions while providing direct technical support and problem-solving assistance for all database environments.
• Enhance knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature, and participation in departmental meetings and vendor educational programs.
• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally to CCHMC.
• Inspire and encourage teamwork among colleagues.
• Prepare and deliver oral and written presentations.
• Conduct and engage in instructional seminars.
• Acquire expertise in various Cincinnati Children's computer-based systems.
• Oversee the design, development, and execution of new and enhanced projects.
• Identify necessary resources for project completion.
• Facilitate communication between internal and external parties regarding project-related issues and developments.
• Develop and sustain project plans.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Consult with end-users to ascertain requirements for database solutions.
• Guarantee exceptional end-user support, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other departments to ensure customer-focused incident management and support.
• Comply with and advocate for the continual adoption of change management policies and procedures.
• Exemplify outstanding customer service behavior, including prompt and effective follow-up with customers.

• Mentor and train fellow database administrators.
• Engage in the interview process.
• Offer consultation and assistance to customers and Information Services personnel.
• Follow IS departmental on-call and Service Desk policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Over 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• More than 5 years of experience supporting enterprise database environments, with strong proficiency in MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with high availability, replication, clustering, and load balancing technologies, including MySQL Router and PGPool.
• Working knowledge of Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server administration.
• Experience in database performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting in complex production environments.
• Proficiency in database programming languages such as PL/SQL, T-SQL, and other procedural database languages.
• Experience in developing and maintaining automation scripts using Bash Shell and/or PowerShell.
• Understanding of Linux and Windows server operating systems and their interaction with database platforms.
• Experience in troubleshooting issues beyond the database layer, including network connectivity, firewall configurations, operating systems, and infrastructure components.
• Experience supporting mission-critical applications in highly available healthcare, research, or other regulated environments.
• Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and emerging database platforms.
