This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.
• Oversee and maintain all databases to ensure they are highly available and reliable.
• Conduct regular backups and recovery procedures for databases.
• Monitor the performance of databases, fine-tuning them for enhanced optimization and efficiency.
• Engage in the design, development, and upkeep of scalable and efficient data pipelines and databases.
• Work closely with stakeholders to comprehend data requirements and convert them into technical specifications and data models.
• Suggest suitable data storage and processing technologies based on specific project needs.
• Design and execute Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to gather, clean, and convert data from various sources into usable formats.
• Maintain data integrity, consistency, and quality throughout all ETL processes.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data integration workflows, identifying and resolving data-related issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of data warehouses and data lakes to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.
• Implement strategies for data partitioning, indexing, and optimization to enhance query performance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with data consumers to understand their reporting and analysis needs, providing suitable data structures and schemas.
• Comply with and enforce data governance policies, standards, and regulations.
• Apply data security measures, including access controls, encryption, and data masking techniques.
• Monitor data usage and access patterns, identifying and mitigating potential data security risks.
• Enhance data processes and infrastructure for improved performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Carry out performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing to boost data retrieval and processing speed.
• Proactively identify and resolve system bottlenecks to ensure efficient data operations.
• Design, create, implement, and maintain automated jobs and reports.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, business analysts, and IT systems analysts to grasp their business requirements and deliver data and custom application solutions.
• Effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in database administration.
• Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems (DBMS).
• Coordinate and supervise OS-level patching and updates for database servers.
• Execute routine and advanced system maintenance and monitoring tasks.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Proven experience (3-5 years) as a Database Administrator or in a comparable role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL).
• Proficient with core enterprise applications operating in both UNIX and Windows environments.
• Skilled in programming languages and scripting such as Bash, PowerShell, and Python.
• Familiarity with Java, Python, or R for data manipulation, visualizations, and analysis is a plus.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL principles.
• Experience or knowledge of big data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka) and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of data governance, data security, and privacy practices.
• Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Plotly, Tableau, Power BI) is an advantage.
• Understanding of computer networking, current systems software, protocols, and standards, particularly routing/switching/security, Active Directory.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Strong skills in technical architecture and technical support documentation.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
• Willingness to travel for training and user group participation is required.
