Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Convert mission objectives and business inquiries into analytical strategies alongside government stakeholders and subject matter experts.

• Conduct exploratory and statistical analysis, predictive modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and feature engineering utilizing governed enterprise data.

• Create, validate, and uphold models and AI-driven analytical capabilities.

• Document assumptions, definitions, and data lineage comprehensively.

• Assess whether outputs are accurate, explainable, and suitable for aiding decision-making.

• Construct analytical datasets using Databricks, BigQuery, Python, and SQL.

• Collaborate with the data engineering team when production pipelines are necessary.

• Take responsibility for existing analytical products, reports, and stakeholder interactions.

• Enhance and sustain current capabilities while developing new ones.

• Provide visualizations, dashboards, models, and written analyses for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Share findings with stakeholders and leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of pertinent experience, or a Master’s degree with 10 years, in data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, operations research, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Proven experience in developing, validating, and documenting analytical models that influenced real operational or business decisions.

• Strong foundation in applied statistics and machine learning, including the ability to determine the appropriate method for the problem at hand.

• Expertise in Python and SQL for analysis, modeling, and managing data at scale.

• Experience in assessing model performance and transparently communicating uncertainty, limitations, and assumptions to non-technical stakeholders.

• Practical experience working in Databricks as a practitioner: utilizing notebooks, SQL, and PySpark for analysis, model development, tracking, AI features, or dashboards.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must qualify for and maintain federal suitability, a government-issued PIV credential, and necessary system access.

• Previous experience supporting GSA, preferably within the Public Buildings Service, including knowledge of PBS organization, business operations, and data locations.

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery, alongside an understanding of data governance and production support.

• Experience serving as the senior analytical authority on a team, establishing methods, reviewing others' analyses, and mentoring junior analysts.
