Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Create data products and machine learning models utilized in Risk, Fraud, Collections, and portfolio management, ensuring a seamless customer experience across various offerings from Oportun.

• Develop precise and automated monitoring tools to effectively track the performance of models and rules.

• Establish a model deployment platform aimed at reducing the time required to implement new models.

• Construct end-to-end reusable pipelines that span from data acquisition to the delivery of model outputs.

• Spearhead initiatives that generate business value from inception to completion, encompassing project planning, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

• Facilitate discussions with Compliance, Bank Partners, and Model Risk Management teams to support Model Governance Activities, including Model Validations and Monitoring.

⛳️ Requirements

• A dedicated problem solver and innovative thinker with a demonstrated ability to deliver business results promptly.

• A Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field (consideration will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and substantial relevant experience).

• Practical experience applying machine learning techniques such as Gradient Boosting, Logistic Regression, and Neural Networks to address real-world challenges.

• Over 3 years of hands-on experience in data extraction, cleaning, analysis, and building reusable data pipelines; proficient in SQL, Spark SQL, and/or Hive.

• More than 3 years of experience utilizing modern machine learning tools and programming languages like Python.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong abilities in stakeholder management and project management.

• Comfort in a high-growth, fast-paced, and agile work environment.

• Experience with AWS EMR, SageMaker, or other cloud-based platforms is advantageous.

• Familiarity with HDFS, Hive, Shell scripting, and other big data tools is a plus.
