Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Lead the comprehensive development of algorithms for battery state estimation, including State of Energy/Charge/Power/Health.

• Apply an in-depth understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), spanning from the physics of individual cells to system-level topology and state estimation metrics.

• Create, implement, and deploy AI/ML models for state estimation to predict energy availability, which is essential for effective BESS trading strategies.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as product management, energy market analysts, engineering, and DevOps, to establish requirements, incorporate models into production workflows, and provide scalable, cloud-integrated data solutions.

• Keep updated on cutting-edge AI/ML and deep learning methods presented in current literature.

• Oversee the transition of AI/ML models from research phases to production, ensuring adherence to robust, scalable, and efficient software development methodologies.

• Utilize expertise in managing large-scale, noisy battery datasets effectively.

• Act as a technical advisor and mentor for junior team members, contributing to the strategic technical direction of the AI/Data Science team.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field.

• Over 5 years of experience in data science or applied machine learning, with a minimum of 3 years in an industry setting.

• Proficient in Python development, encompassing production-level software practices and modular code architectures.

• Strong knowledge of machine learning (both supervised and unsupervised), deep learning, and statistical modeling techniques.

• Practical experience with large-scale, imperfect datasets and tools such as Polars, Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and SQL.

• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, or Snowflake.

• Comfortable working in Linux environments and utilizing version control systems like Git.

• Proficient in using Jira for Agile project management.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse global teams.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

• Preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field.

• Experience with BESS topology and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
