Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Derive medical insights from Atria's extensive longitudinal clinical data: uncover early disease signals, assess member responses to interventions, and pinpoint population-level trends actionable by clinicians.

• Develop forecasting models based on clinical and operational indicators: tracking disease progression, biomarker trends, member engagement, and planning for demand and capacity, addressing various time-series challenges.

• Take the lead or assist in operational analytics: analyzing visit patterns, scheduling efficiency, panel composition, vendor performance, member experiences, and other efficiency-related queries that accumulate over time.

• Collaborate with clinicians to design and conduct studies: formulate clear research questions, implement well-controlled comparisons, conduct thorough error analyses, and produce write-ups that withstand clinical evaluation.

• Design and assess experiments (A/B tests, staged rollouts, quasi-experiments) with a focus on statistical power, multiple comparisons, and the distinction between "statistically significant" results and those that have practical implications.

• Create and maintain curated views and dbt models in our Snowflake gold layer, ensuring documentation is comprehensive enough for clinicians and operational staff to utilize independently without needing to reach out for assistance.

• Develop dashboards and analytical tools in Omni Analytics that are genuinely utilized by clinicians and operational leaders for decision-making.

• Collaborate with AI Scientists and AI Engineers to bridge analytical work with model training and production systems, contributing ground truth, evaluation datasets, and clinical context to align their models with relevant issues.

• Convert clinical and operational inquiries into well-defined analytical challenges, and translate findings back into actionable recommendations. This bidirectional translation constitutes a significant portion of the role.

• A strong inclination towards results. You prefer to provide a clear answer to a pertinent question for a clinician next week over delivering a sophisticated methodology that rolls out next quarter.

• A resourceful mindset. You can quickly familiarize yourself with a new dataset, statistical method, or clinical concept and produce a credible initial analysis within a short timeframe.

• A relentless commitment to self-improvement. You actively engage with others' analyses, academic papers, and coding practices, viewing errors as opportunities for learning rather than setbacks.

• Proven experience in data science, analytics, or applied statistics: a minimum of 5 years, with at least 2 years in healthcare, biomedical, or another regulated domain involving longitudinal data.

• A robust understanding of statistics and probability: capable of defending a confidence interval, regression specifications, and a logical forecasting baseline.

• Proficient knowledge of forecasting and time-series methodologies (both classical and modern), regression modeling, and applied machine learning techniques for tabular datasets (including gradient boosting and similar approaches).

• Familiarity with designing and analyzing experiments and quasi-experiments: enough expertise to discern when an A/B test is appropriate, when it is not, and how to proceed accordingly.

• Strong skills in Python (including pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels, and at least one forecasting library) and SQL, written confidently.

• Comfortable working with a cloud data warehouse (preferably Snowflake) and modern data tools such as dbt and workflow orchestrators (like Dagster or Airflow).

• A history of collaborating with domain experts and transforming their inquiries into robust analytical outputs: including clinicians, operations leaders, or similar stakeholders.

• Effective written and visual communication skills: producing concise executive summaries, defensible methodology sections, and well-labeled charts with clear titles and axes.

• A genuine interest in healthcare and the ethical considerations of working with data that impacts patient care.
