Senior Data QA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, build, and oversee enterprise-level automated data quality validation frameworks, which encompass rules engines, anomaly detection, and monitoring for completeness, conformity, integrity, and timeliness.

• Spearhead the design and execution of automated testing strategies for intricate healthcare data ingestion, transformation, and downstream application pipelines.

• Conduct root cause analysis on significant data quality defects, manage remediation strategies, and avert recurrence through systemic improvements to processes.

• Formulate and enhance data quality strategies, standards, and best practices throughout pipelines, impacting tooling and process decisions across the organization.

• Collaborate directly with Engineering, Product, Project Management, Operations, and Connector Engineering leadership to convert business and compliance requirements into technical test plans, functional specifications, and validation logic.

• Oversee the review of software and data defect reports, pinpoint systemic problem areas, and set standards for reproducible issue documentation.

• Create and sustain advanced QA automation frameworks and dashboards utilizing SQL, Python, Java, and cloud-native tools.

• Lead the design of system verification protocols and represent QA in cross-functional architecture and design discussions.

• Perform advanced data mining and profiling on client-specific and healthcare datasets to proactively identify quality risks at scale.

• Manage documentation strategies, including test plans, validation criteria, rule catalogs, and QA runbooks.

• Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior and mid-level QA engineers.

• Act as an escalation point for internal and external data quality inquiries.

• Ensure that data security and quality processes comply with PHI handling, HIPAA, SOC 2, and Abacus governance requirements, while assisting in the evolution of governance standards as the platform expands.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.

• 6–8+ years of experience in Data Quality Engineering and Data Engineering, particularly within healthcare technology or payer/provider settings.

• Proficient in SQL at an expert level, with capabilities in complex data manipulation, validation, and profiling at scale.

• Demonstrated ability to lead data quality projects from inception to completion.

• Extensive experience with healthcare data types, including enrollment, medical claims, pharmacy claims, provider data, or non-traditional health and wellness datasets.

• Strong practical expertise in automation scripting with Python or Java, with a history of developing reusable frameworks.

• Proven experience with cloud computing environments such as AWS (S3, EC2, SSM, Athena) and Databricks in production-scale applications.

• Demonstrated experience in designing data integration workflows, ETL/ELT pipelines, data mapping strategies, and enterprise QA testing protocols.

• A record of successfully building and scaling automated QA applications, dashboards, or custom rule frameworks from the ground up.

• Proven ability to analyze complex, large-scale datasets, identify systemic quality challenges, and implement actionable and measurable improvements.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across various teams.

• Exceptional communication skills, capable of working cross-functionally, influencing stakeholders, and performing independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong organizational and prioritization skills in a dynamic, multi-project environment.
