This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of and maintain our data pipeline architectures (e.g., essential data ingestion services, ETL pipelines, database mirroring, and warehousing), ensuring their reliability, monitoring, and adherence to SLAs.
• Manage and advance our data modeling environments, providing a seamless, well-documented workflow for analysts and engineers.
• Operate and enhance our orchestration systems (Dagster), ensuring that jobs run consistently and are observable.
• Assess and streamline data tooling from Databricks and notebooks (Marimo, Jupyter) to BI/analytics platforms (Redash and others), guiding Voltus towards a sustainable and coherent data platform.
• Implement observability for data systems (logging, alerting, metrics) to ensure early detection of issues and continuous monitoring of data quality.
• Advocate for data governance and documentation, ensuring datasets are well-defined, reliable, and easy to navigate.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and platform engineers to ensure the infrastructure you create is intuitive, scalable, and addresses real-world challenges.
• Establish the foundation for advanced applications by ensuring Voltus’ data is reliably accessible through well-documented interfaces, positioning us for future ML and AI use cases.
• Demonstrated experience in a data engineering or infrastructure position, with accountability for production-grade pipelines and data systems.
• Proficient in a programming language such as Python (Bonus: Go).
• Extensive experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, dbt, and integrating various data sources into warehouses/lakes.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP) and contemporary data tools; we currently operate on AWS.
• Experienced in workflow orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, or similar tools).
• Comfortable assessing trade-offs between notebook and analysis platforms (Jupyter, Marimo, Databricks) and recommending sustainable solutions.
• Knowledgeable about BI/analytics tools (Redash, Looker, Mode, Superset, etc.) and how to support or transition to them.
• Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and observability principles.
• A clear communicator capable of working across both technical and non-technical teams to define requirements and deliver solutions.
• Comfortable taking full ownership of critical data infrastructure and serving as the main point of contact for reliability and direction.
• Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus).
• Base salary ranges from $160,000 to $190,000 annually, depending on experience, with a 10% bonus paid semi-annually and equity options.
