Senior Data Engineer, MongoDB

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Assist in the migration of Percona Server for MongoDB environments to MongoDB Atlas.

• Evaluate MongoDB deployments, which include replica sets, sharded clusters, backup strategies, and operational processes.

• Set up, execute, and oversee MongoDB Atlas Live Migration activities.

• Conduct migration readiness assessments and pinpoint risks, dependencies, and technical limitations.

• Confirm data consistency, index integrity, and application connectivity both prior to and following migration.

• Aid in production cutovers and prepare rollback strategies.

• Resolve issues related to migration, replication, network, and performance.

• Work in collaboration with client architects to establish migration phases, runbooks, and validation protocols.

• Create automation scripts and tools for migration tasks and environment setup.

• Provide assistance with Atlas cluster sizing, performance optimization, and operational enhancements.

• Configure and maintain MongoDB security, encompassing authentication, authorization, encryption, and network access controls.

• Document migration processes, technical choices, and operational runbooks.

• Support updates, testing, and deployments of application connection strings.

• Facilitate post-migration stabilization and knowledge transfer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in delivering enterprise database solutions, with a minimum of 3 years in administering MongoDB or Percona Server for MongoDB in production settings.

• Demonstrated experience in supporting large-scale database migration projects and working with distributed database systems and high-availability architectures.

• Extensive hands-on experience in MongoDB administration, including Replica Sets, Sharding, Replication, Backup & Recovery, Performance Tuning, Index Optimization, Capacity Planning, Security Configuration, and Disaster Recovery.

• Practical experience with MongoDB Atlas, covering Atlas Live Migration, cluster sizing, monitoring and alerting, security protocols, and networking setup.

• Strong Linux administration capabilities and familiarity with DNS, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and private connectivity.

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.

• Proficient scripting and automation skills using Python and Bash/Shell scripting.

• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD practices, and infrastructure automation.

• Comfortable engaging directly with client stakeholders, architects, infrastructure teams, and application teams throughout migration and cutover processes.

• Experience with Percona Server for MongoDB, MongoDB Atlas migrations, Kubernetes, or Terraform is a plus, though not mandatory.
