Senior Data Engineer – Data Performance, Tooling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Implement scalable, production-ready data infrastructure that evolves with Jane's growth.

• Find a balance between innovation and operational stability, making informed trade-offs between speed and reliability.

• Play a key role in the design, implementation, and upkeep of a secure, centralized data lake.

• Create and develop high-performance streaming applications.

• Assist in the design and implementation of security measures for Jane's data lake.

• Lead infrastructure projects from the design phase through to production, including documentation, operational runbooks, and knowledge transfer.

• Collaborate with analytics and product teams to identify needs and convert them into technical specifications.

• Adapt based on real-world usage feedback.

• Leverage AI to enhance documentation, research, boilerplate tasks, and knowledge synthesis.

• Engage with infrastructure that supports data pipelines, data accessibility, analytics, and reporting for clinic-management SaaS products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with production data infrastructure.

• Practical experience in deploying and maintaining systems within a SaaS or data-intensive environment.

• Proficient in SQL and data warehouse principles, including ETL/ELT processes, schema design, query optimization, and performance debugging.

• Hands-on proficiency with AWS services and infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Amazon MSK, AWS Glue, and Terraform.

• Familiarity with contemporary data lake and data warehouse solutions, especially Apache Iceberg and Snowflake.

• Experience in implementing database replication and change data capture pipelines using Kafka, Debezium, Flink, or Spark.

• Proven history of managing infrastructure from start to finish, encompassing design, deployment, operation, and iteration of systems.

• Ability to communicate technical decisions effectively to both engineering and non-technical audiences.

• Experience with Ruby on Rails monolithic applications is a plus.

• Must currently reside and work in Canada.

• Must have the eligibility to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
