Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable, conformed data models and analytical layers that support experimentation and company KPIs.

• Take ownership of warehouse data connectors from start to finish, encompassing replicated backend tables, custom connectors, and managed sources from third parties.

• Manage infrastructure as code and deployment workflows across AWS and GCP utilizing Kubernetes and OpenTofu (Terraform).

• Oversee data pipelines, monitor their freshness, and respond promptly to any failures.

• Act as a senior contributor in data architecture discussions, including decisions on table types, datastores, and schemas from backend to semantic layers.

• Collaborate with analysts, ML engineers, and product stakeholders to convert business inquiries into reusable self-service data models.

• Advocate for engineering excellence through testing, code reviews, observability, and operational best practices.

• Ensure the reliability of data models by monitoring ingestion processes, data quality, accuracy, coverage gaps, and both upstream and downstream failures.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in building and maintaining production data platforms and analytical models.

• Extensive knowledge of SQL and Python.

• Comprehensive experience with dimensional modeling, including grain, table types, conformed dimensions, and loading patterns.

• Practical experience with BigQuery, dbt, Dagster, and ingestion tools like Fivetran, Airbyte, or Google Datastream.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and messaging queues or streams such as Kafka, SQS, or Pub/Sub.

• SRE-focused experience with monitoring, alerting, incident response, and performance optimization concerning data integrations.

• Proven track record of safely delivering data and metrics, along with validation practices and an understanding of compute costs.

• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
