Senior Data Center Engineer II

📋 Description

• Implementing, maintaining, and scaling the data center infrastructure at DigitalOcean.

• Installing, arranging, and cabling servers, power distribution units (PDUs), and network switches.

• Setting up and commissioning servers, networking devices, storage systems, and GPU infrastructure.

• Designing and executing large-scale infrastructure deployments, including rack buildouts and cluster expansions.

• Assisting in new data center construction and expansion projects by planning rack layouts and validating infrastructure readiness.

• Deploying and troubleshooting high-density computing platforms, which include GPU and liquid-cooled systems.

• Identifying and resolving hardware issues across servers, networking devices, and storage systems.

• Troubleshooting hardware, network, and Linux operating system-related problems.

• Submitting Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) and managing hardware lifecycle replacements with equipment vendors.

• Overseeing the shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking of data center hardware and components.

• Maintaining documentation for deployments, runbooks, and operational procedures.

• Collaborating with internal engineering teams to facilitate hardware rollouts and infrastructure upgrades.

• Ensuring operational readiness for new data center deployments.

• Participating in an on-call rotation to maintain infrastructure availability.

• Guiding junior engineers and contributing to team development.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6-8+ years of experience in deploying, operating, or supporting infrastructure in large-scale data center or cloud environments.

• In-depth understanding of data center infrastructure, including computing, networking, and storage systems.

• Strong knowledge of data center power and cooling architectures.

• Experience in deploying and troubleshooting GPU hardware and high-density computing infrastructure.

• Background in working with or supporting liquid-cooled infrastructure.

• Proficient in Linux with command line experience; familiarity with bash scripting is a plus.

• Excellent troubleshooting abilities across hardware, networking, and operating systems.

• Knowledge of data center cabling standards and best practices for deployment.

• Experience in supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments or data center expansions.

• Capability to analyze infrastructure incidents and drive operational enhancements.

• Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to conduct in-depth technical investigations.

• Experience in maintaining deployment documentation and operational procedures.

• Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.

• Willing to engage in an on-call rotation.

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (20–25%).

• Physical ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.
