Senior Data Center Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Implementing, maintaining, and scaling the data center infrastructure at DigitalOcean.

• Installing, organizing, and cabling servers, power distribution units (PDUs), and network switches.

• Setting up and commissioning servers, networking gear, storage solutions, and GPU infrastructure.

• Planning and executing large-scale infrastructure deployments, including rack buildouts and cluster expansions.

• Assisting with new data center constructions and expansions through rack layout planning and infrastructure readiness validation.

• Deploying and troubleshooting high-density computing platforms, including GPU and liquid-cooled infrastructure.

• Diagnosing and resolving hardware issues across servers, networking devices, and storage systems.

• Troubleshooting hardware, network, and Linux OS-related challenges.

• Managing RMAs and coordinating hardware lifecycle replacements with equipment vendors.

• Overseeing shipping, receiving, and inventory management of data center hardware and components.

• Keeping deployment documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures up to date.

• Collaborating with internal engineering teams to facilitate hardware rollouts and infrastructure upgrades.

• Ensuring operational readiness for new data center deployments.

• Participating in an on-call rotation to support infrastructure availability.

• Guiding junior engineers and contributing to team development.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6-8+ years of experience in deploying, operating, or supporting infrastructure in large-scale data center or cloud environments.

• Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, encompassing compute, networking, and storage systems.

• Proficient understanding of data center power and cooling systems.

• Experience in deploying and troubleshooting GPU hardware and high-density computing infrastructure.

• Familiarity with liquid-cooled infrastructure support.

• Solid Linux skills and command line proficiency; experience with bash scripting is preferred.

• Excellent troubleshooting capabilities across hardware, networking, and operating systems.

• Knowledge of data center cabling standards and deployment best practices.

• Experience in supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments or data center expansions.

• Ability to analyze infrastructure incidents and lead operational improvements.

• Strong problem-solving aptitude and capacity for conducting thorough technical investigations.

• Experience in maintaining deployment documentation and operational procedures.

• Capacity to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

• Valid driver's license and readiness to travel domestically and internationally (20–25%).

• Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.

• Capability to mentor and train junior engineers.
