This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.
• Create the intellectual and artistic framework for each exhibition, encompassing the central thesis, artist selection, and a cohesive curatorial argument.
• Identify, assess, and curate contemporary artistic perspectives from Pakistan, balancing established artists with emerging talents, while ensuring relevance to the artwork and its European context.
• Establish and nurture trusted relationships with artists, studios, collectives, and institutions throughout Pakistan; negotiate participation, loans, and commissions.
• Transform concepts into tangible exhibitions, including a checklist of works, spatial and sequencing strategies, interpretive plans, and the design of accompanying dialogue formats.
• Compose exhibition texts, wall labels, catalogue essays, and interpretive materials to a professional, publishable standard in English.

• Conceptualize and facilitate talks, panels, and discussions that accompany each exhibition — the 'dialogue' central to Darwaza's mission.
• Represent Darwaza with integrity and discretion within the Pakistani cultural sector, positioning the forum as a serious and respected partner.
• A Master's degree in Curatorial Studies, Art History, Fine Art, Museum Studies, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of professional curatorial experience, with a portfolio showcasing independently conceived and executed exhibitions.
• A proven history of curating exhibitions for museums, biennales, major galleries, or institutional settings, rather than exclusively for commercial galleries.
• Extensive and current knowledge of the contemporary Pakistani and broader South Asian art scene, including artists, discourses, institutions, and histories.
• Exceptional written English skills, with the capability to produce curatorial and catalogue texts to a publishable standard.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead while fostering collaboration across cultures, time zones, and institutions.
• Strong existing connections within the Pakistani art community and the credibility to enhance them on behalf of Darwaza.
