This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide legal counsel to tax-exempt organizations and abortion care providers on corporate and operational issues, including, but not limited to, corporate formation, governance, nonprofit compliance, federal and multi-state employment law, contracts, grants, data privacy, security, and lobbying;
• Conduct legal research, analysis, and documentation;
• Keep abreast of changes and developments in pertinent legal areas;
• Foster and maintain strong working relationships with clients; and
• Execute additional duties as assigned.
• Perform intake interviews with potential clients;
• Represent the Lawyering Project at conferences, meetings, and speaking opportunities;
• For the Senior Counsel position, oversee Legal Counsel, Legal Fellows, and interns as necessary; and
• Promote an organizational culture that reflects the core values of the Lawyering Project.
• A J.D. or an equivalent degree;
• An active license to practice law and a member in good standing within a U.S. jurisdiction;
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as general counsel or associate/assistant general counsel for a tax-exempt organization, or a similar role, providing legal advice to tax-exempt clients on a diverse range of legal issues;
• Extensive experience in advising on multistate employment law matters is advantageous;
• A strong commitment to promoting reproductive health, rights, and justice; and
• The capability to perform all identified job duties and responsibilities; analyze intricate legal issues and articulate them clearly; meet deadlines; work effectively under pressure; demonstrate meticulous attention to detail; communicate efficiently with diverse audiences; and exercise sound judgment in a swiftly changing legal landscape.
• For the Senior Counsel role, the following qualifications are preferred:
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising attorneys.
