This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Provide guidance and support to Docusign Human Resources and business partners regarding employment law matters in Docusign's North America offices and other assigned global locations, covering areas such as hiring, performance management, terminations, discrimination, harassment, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, incentive compensation, benefits (including plan design, implementation, administration, and communications), employee investigations, restructuring initiatives, and corporate development (M&A) activities.
• Stay informed about new laws, regulations, and judicial decisions impacting the aforementioned legal areas and offer strategic advice to the Legal team.
• Prepare and negotiate offer letters and employment-related agreements, including severance, separation, restrictive covenants, retention, and other employment-related documents; create employee-facing policies, handbooks, and additional resources.
• Assist in the design and facilitation of training sessions focused on employment law and benefits issues.
• Oversee pre-filing demands, which includes investigating claims, liaising with opposing counsel, and negotiating resolutions.
• Draft and/or review pre-litigation and litigation documentation, including correspondence with opposing counsel, pleadings, and mediation/arbitration statements.
• Manage outside counsel involved in both employment and non-employment litigation, which includes budget management, directing litigation strategies, and reviewing pleadings and other documents.
• Support employment-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, and divestitures, including due diligence and integration efforts.
• Provide counsel on everyday issues as well as strategic and systemic initiatives.
• Address attorney demand letters and agency matters, including government-initiated inquiries and audits.
• Participate in Legal department and team projects as assigned.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
• Admitted to a State Bar within the United States and in good standing.
• Over 8 years of experience in employment law and litigation practice within a law firm and/or in-house corporate legal department.
• Experience in employment law and litigation at a prominent law firm.
• California or Washington State Law licenses.
• Experience in benefits, including advising senior leaders and benefits professionals on ERISA, fiduciary compliance, plan governance, and legal compliance matters, along with related plan documentation.
• Background in executive compensation, either in-house or at a major law firm.
• Previous in-house work experience.
• Proven ability to work efficiently with a client-service focus in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Experience supporting international business operations and collaborating with HR and other professionals across multiple regions.
• Capability to maintain positive work relationships and collaborate effectively with legal area specialists to resolve issues.
