This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• The Senior Controls Engineer will take charge of the design, functionality, and testing of advanced automated sortation systems.
• Spearhead and support the design and programming of new initiatives.
• Exhibit expertise in diagnosing and resolving control-related challenges involving I/O, hardware (Controller setup, VFDs, Communication devices), and software (PLC and HMI) feedback, using best practices in electrical troubleshooting techniques.
• Offer leadership, direction, and mentoring to junior engineers and contractors.
• Accountable for assisting other members of the FORTNA controls team to ensure precise documentation, proper system functionality, and compliance with approved designs and customer specifications.
• Develop and execute modular and reusable PLC code, while also aiding in all on-site controls engineering activities.
• Design and create “Human Machine Interface” (HMI) utilizing commercially available products like Ignition.
• Implement PLC and HMI programs to meet existing design and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with FORTNA personnel, customer representatives, and third-party vendors to ensure all facets of a project are taken into account during both the design and execution stages.
• Assess electrical designs and provide accurate as-built documentation for approval.
• Either independently or as part of a team, commission and troubleshoot intricate automated systems, provide site engineering support, and complete system acceptance testing.
• Offer assistance with system commissioning efforts as needed.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• 4-7 years of experience in an industrial controls setting, which includes:
• PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, LD, ST, SCL).
• HMI Programming (Ignition SCADA, Siemens Unified Comfort).
• Design, implementation, and troubleshooting of input and output devices.
• Knowledge of industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
• Understanding and creation of low voltage electrical designs and drawings.
• Equivalent professional experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Preferred experience with VFDs (networked experience is a plus).
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 - Office Apps.
• A wide range of services and products that encompass network strategy, distribution center operational design and implementation, automated material handling equipment, robotics, and a complete suite of lifecycle services.
