Senior Controls Design Engineer – CAD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design control panels that support HVAC systems, electrical power monitoring systems, switchgear interfaces, field instrumentation, networking equipment, and third-party vendor integrations within mission-critical environments.

• Integrate inputs from the Engineer of Record, MEP design packages, vendor technical submittals, network architecture documentation, project-specific design documentation, standards, and naming conventions.

• Implement changes based on submittals, including points mapping, control interfaces, and vendor-specific requirements.

• Produce BMS and EPMS control panel drawings ready for manufacturing issuance.

• Conduct constructability assessments of EPMS and BMS panel drawings along with related documentation.

• Verify installation feasibility, cable routing, power distribution alignment, and adherence to site restrictions.

• Recognize design risks or deficiencies and promote their mitigation.

• Develop points mapping, wiring specifications, and vendor schematic integrations.

• Discover opportunities to simplify designs, enhance cost efficiency, or reduce materials while ensuring functional and redundancy standards are met.

• Suggest enhancements to panel architecture, wiring schemes, or component selection.

• Maintain revision control and guarantee timely submission of drawings and documents.

• Integrate commissioning requirements into design deliverables that align with FAT/SAT/IST processes.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, panel manufacturers, and vendors regarding scope, schedules, deliverables, technical inquiries, fabrication, and assembly.

• Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and partners.

• Serve as a Design & Engineering subject matter expert to support Project and Commissioning Managers.

• Assist project leadership in identifying risks, resolving issues, and ensuring delivery alignment.

• Comply with company policies, QMS requirements, and safety standards.

• Enhance and support the Quality Management System.

• Advocate for structured engineering and documentation practices.

• Identify process enhancements and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with relevant technical experience.

• 5–7 years of experience in electrical control panel design, controls engineering, automation, or systems integration.

• Experience in supporting industrial automation, manufacturing, utilities, pharmaceuticals, water/wastewater, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.

• Familiarity with IEC 60204, IEC 61439, and electrical drafting/documentation standards is preferred.

• Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS architectures, as well as related field instrumentation.

• Apply suitable drafting, design-documentation, and configuration-control methods using company-approved design tools, templates, standards, and document management processes.

• Ability to work independently on engineering tasks.

• Proficient in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical, with a proven track record of producing manufacturing-ready control panel designs; EPLAN experience is preferred.

• Strong understanding of instrumentation, control panels, and networked systems.

• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives.

• Demonstrable troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
