Senior Controls Design Engineer – CAD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design control panels that support HVAC systems, electrical power monitoring systems, switchgear interfaces, field instrumentation, networking equipment, and integrations with third-party vendors in mission-critical environments.

• Integrate the Engineer of Record, MEP design packages, vendor submittals, network architecture documentation, project documentation, standards, and naming conventions into the design processes.

• Incorporate changes based on submittals, points mapping, control interfaces, and vendor-specific requirements.

• Develop BMS and EPMS control panel drawings from templates or incomplete designs to ensure readiness for manufacturing.

• Conduct constructability assessments and validate installation feasibility, cable routing, power distribution alignment, and compliance with site constraints.

• Identify design risks or deficiencies and implement mitigation strategies.

• Create points mapping, wiring requirements, and integrate vendor schematics.

• Recognize opportunities for design simplification, cost efficiency, and material reduction while maintaining functional and redundancy requirements.

• Suggest enhancements to panel architecture, wiring schemes, and component selection.

• Maintain revision control and ensure timely submission of drawings and documents.

• Include commissioning requirements in deliverables for FAT/SAT/IST processes.

• Collaborate on scope, schedules, and deliverables with cross-functional teams.

• Work with panel manufacturers and vendors to address technical queries and support fabrication and assembly efforts.

• Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and partners.

• Serve as a Design & Engineering subject matter expert supporting Project and Commissioning Managers.

• Assist project leadership with identifying risks, resolving issues, and ensuring delivery alignment.

• Identify and escalate technical risks, constraints, and changes in scope.

• Adhere to company policies, QMS requirements, and safety standards.

• Support and enhance the Quality Management System.

• Advocate for structured engineering and documentation practices.

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field, accompanied by relevant technical experience.

• 5–7 years of experience in electrical control panel design, controls engineering, automation, or systems integration.

• Experience in supporting industrial automation, manufacturing, utilities, pharmaceuticals, water/wastewater, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.

• Familiarity with IEC 60204, IEC 61439, and electrical drafting/documentation standards is preferred.

• Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS architectures along with associated field instrumentation.

• Understanding of drafting, design documentation, and configuration control methods using company-approved design tools, templates, standards, and document management processes.

• Capability to work independently on engineering tasks.

• Proficiency in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical, with a track record of producing manufacturing-ready control panel designs; EPLAN experience is preferred.

• Strong understanding of instrumentation, control panels, and networked systems.

• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives.

• Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
