
Senior Control Systems Engineer – Power Generation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Develop and manage control strategies for the entire plant and DCS/SCADA frameworks for large-scale power generation facilities.
• Create scalable and resilient system designs that accommodate complex operational profiles and adapt to changing grid demands.
• Lead the creation of advanced control logic, which includes automated load balancing, load shedding, and rapid-start sequencing.
• Supervise the integration of OEM control systems, such as reciprocating engines and gas turbines, into a cohesive plant and microgrid control setup.
• Ensure effective communication and coordination among plant subsystems and external grid connections.
• Assess system performance against dynamic response and operational standards.
• Act as the primary technical authority for EPC firms, system integrators, and vendors regarding all control system scopes.
• Review, annotate, and approve essential engineering documents, including P&IDs, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, network architectures, and I/O lists.
• Direct control systems engineering for multiple large-scale capital projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, civil, and commissioning teams to guarantee cohesive system design and implementation.
• Over 15 years of practical experience in control systems engineering within power generation or heavy industrial settings.
• Demonstrated success in leading control system design and implementation for large-scale capital projects valued over $1 billion.
• Extensive knowledge of natural gas power plant operations, including reciprocating engines, gas turbines, governor systems, and synchronization protocols.
• Strong background with DCS, PLCs, and OEM-specific control systems (e.g., Woodward, GE Mark VIe, or similar platforms).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience collaborating with EPCs, OEMs, and multidisciplinary internal teams to provide integrated system solutions.
• Excellent communication abilities, capable of conveying intricate control strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, transitioning smoothly between design, execution, and commissioning phases.
• A progressive mindset that encourages the integration of traditional generation methods with battery storage and other innovative technologies.
