This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• Act as a subject matter expert in BESS for engineering scopes, encompassing equipment layout, electrical integration, controls, fire protection interfaces, commissioning support, and project execution.
• Collaborate with Engineers of Record, vendors, consultants, fire protection engineers, AHJs, owners, and project stakeholders.
• Evaluate BESS drawings, specifications, technical reports, vendor documentation, commissioning documents, and integration deliverables.
• Monitor engineering action items, review comments, responses, and design modifications until resolution.
• Aid in resolving technical conflicts, constructability issues, field inquiries, and coordination challenges.
• Assess technical materials related to BESS architecture, layouts, single-line diagrams, control narratives, vendor packages, augmentation, fire protection, and project integration.
• Offer senior-level engineering assistance during construction, testing, commissioning, energization, and initial operations.
• Facilitate RFIs, engineering clarifications, field issue resolutions, design modifications, commissioning findings, startup challenges, punch lists, and turnover.
• Engage in warranty investigations, root-cause analyses, and development of corrective actions.
• Contribute to BESS engineering standards, workflows, SWIs, trackers, comment logs, and best-practice documentation.
• Function as a technical escalation resource, providing guidance, lessons learned, and SME support to field and project teams.
• Assist with high-risk scope reviews, portfolio-level technical insights, and analysis of recurring issue trends.
• Mentor Construction Engineering staff through technical guidance, document evaluations, and knowledge sharing without direct supervisory authority.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is mandatory.
• 3–5+ years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering, BESS engineering, EPC, utility-scale renewable energy, power systems, or energy storage.
• Comprehensive understanding of BESS design, integration, commissioning interfaces, battery systems, inverters, BMS, EMS, controls, grid interconnection equipment, and project execution requirements.
• Capacity to coordinate EORs, vendors, consultants, AHJs, owners, and internal project teams to address complex engineering challenges and fulfill deliverables.
• Proficient in reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, commissioning papers, fire protection documents, and BESS technical outputs.
• Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NFPA 855, UL 9540, UL 9540A, utility requirements, and project-specific standards.
• Strong analytical abilities for synthesizing technical documents, assessing design assumptions, and crafting engineering recommendations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for leading technical discussions with project stakeholders.
• Competence in Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to support field work, travel as necessary, and manage multiple concurrent complex tasks.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without needing employer sponsorship now or in the future.
• Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, document control systems, and BESS or power system analysis tools is advantageous.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
