This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Oversee communications projects from inception to publication, coordinating with both internal teams and external partners to ensure timely completion and thorough review processes.
• Establish and execute systems and processes that enhance communication workflows and improve coordination among teams.
• Continuously enhance knowledge in prenatal-to-three policy and research topics to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide innovative and evidence-based recommendations for communications, marketing, and design strategies.
• Work in collaboration with the Senior Communications Specialist and Digital Marketing team to aid in the distribution of communications products across the Center’s digital platforms.
• Collaborate closely with Center staff to condense and convert complex research findings and policy analyses into clear, accessible communications for policymakers, practitioners, partners, and other external audiences.
• Assist in the creation of communications products, including but not limited to policy briefs, research summaries, reports, major publications, presentations, talking points, website content, external communications, and materials for leadership briefings and public events.
• Review and enhance communications materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the Center’s messaging framework and editorial standards, while providing editorial guidance to staff to improve clarity, tone, and accessibility.
• Aid in the development and distribution of the annual Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap and other key Center publications.
• Support media engagement regarding Center research, publications, and policy announcements.
• Write and edit press releases, media advisories, and other public-facing communications materials.
• Assist in preparing Center staff for media interviews and press briefings, providing guidance on messaging and communication strategies.
• Collaborate with the Communications Director on media inquiries and opportunities to promote the Center’s work.
• Monitor relevant media coverage and identify opportunities to highlight the Center’s research and policy insights.
• Contribute to communications planning for significant publications, events, and policy releases.
• Lead communications planning and promotion for Center webinars and virtual briefings, including messaging, promotional materials, and audience outreach.
• Coordinate with internal teams to support webinar communications, ensuring that messaging and promotional timelines are aligned with event planning.
• Identify opportunities to enhance storytelling and messaging around the Center’s research and policy initiatives.
• Help maintain a coordinated and aligned approach to communications efforts throughout the organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or a related field.
• Five or more years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
• Outstanding writing and editing skills, with the capability to distill complex topics into clear and concise content.
• Proven experience in editing and refining reports, policy publications, research summaries, or other long-form written materials.
• Familiarity with professional editorial standards, including knowledge of AP style and APA style, depending on the type of product.
• Strong project management and organizational abilities, with the skill to manage multiple communications projects concurrently.
• Professional experience with HubSpot or another mass email platform, WordPress or another web content management system, and familiarity with social media or marketing analytics tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and proofreading capabilities.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Ability to rapidly assimilate new subject matter, manage multiple priorities, and produce high-quality output within tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to communicate policy issues through an equity lens.
• Commitment to ongoing learning about communications tools and trends.
