This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +3 more states.
• Responsible for selecting, cultivating, and managing a profitable portfolio of business within a designated high-volume territory, exercising a significant level of underwriting authority.
• Assesses and evaluates highly intricate accounts for purposes of risk selection and pricing.
• Reviews exposure, company and branch risk appetites, account premium and loss history, financial data, lines of business, pricing guidance, motor vehicle records, online information sources, premium audit reports, risk improvement insights, and other pertinent data to underwrite policies.
• Builds and nurtures relationships with agencies.
• Instructs agents on EMC products, underwriting appetites, systems, and services.
• Visits agencies to review accounts and provide updates from EMC, maximizing potential opportunities.
• Engages in proactive communication with agents, anticipating their needs as well as those of insured parties.
• Identifies opportunities and potential challenges within agency relationships.
• Works collaboratively with marketing representatives to ensure agents have outstanding customer experiences.
• Proposes suitable coverage for exposures and clarifies decision-making processes to agents.
• Coordinates with marketing and branch management during agency planning and review activities.
• Acts as a mentor to less experienced underwriters.
• Responds to inquiries, provides recommendations for complex scenarios, including challenging accounts, communication strategies, or difficult agency relationships, and elucidates the reasoning behind recommendations.
• Assists underwriting management by reviewing the work of junior underwriters and offering training support.
• A bachelor's degree, ideally in insurance or business administration.
• At least five years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
• Preferred insurance designations, such as CPCU.
• Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting and risk analysis.
• Outstanding problem-solving abilities.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
• Capability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present ideas to groups.
• Strong presentation skills are preferred.
• Proven leadership qualities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record as per company standards is required when traveling.
