Senior COBOL Developer – z/OS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Transform legacy RPG II programs into well-organized, maintainable COBOL on z/OS.

• Evaluate current program logic, file structures, and data flows to ensure the converted code functions identically.

• Create and sustain JCL, batch job streams, and associated utilities.

• Compose and optimize SQL (DB2 for z/OS) and collaborate with VSAM and sequential datasets.

• Engage in unit, regression, and parallel testing, including data validation and reconciliation between legacy and converted outputs.

• Prepare code and data for rehosting on GCP utilizing the Raincode compiler and runtime.

• Document converted programs, data dependencies, and technical decisions made during the process.

• Collaborate with the client's technical and migration teams within an Agile framework.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional COBOL development experience on IBM z/OS mainframes.

• Proficient SQL and data skills, particularly in DB2 for z/OS (including embedded SQL, query optimization, and data modeling).

• Experience with JCL, TSO/ISPF, and batch processing.

• Familiarity with VSAM, QSAM/sequential files, and GDGs.

• Knowledge of mainframe utilities such as DFSORT/SYNCSORT and IDCAMS.

• Proficient in CICS.

• Background in legacy modernization, code conversion, or mainframe migration projects.

• Experience with mainframe rehosting or emulation platforms (Raincode, Micro Focus/Rocket Enterprise Server) or GCP.

• Familiarity with source control and change management tools (Git, Endevor, ChangeMan).

• Experience in data validation, reconciliation, and parallel-run testing.

• B2 level (upper-intermediate) or higher English language proficiency, capable of effective communication in professional contexts, both written and verbal.

• Familiarity with RPG II or other IBM midrange languages is a plus but not mandatory.
