This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.
• Oversee the complete execution process: Design and spearhead the implementation of scalable, high-availability cloud infrastructure, transitioning from feature-focused tasks to driving a long-term platform strategy while promoting Twilio’s "progress over perfection" mindset for consistent, impactful deliveries.
• Operational Excellence: Take responsibility for the reliability of services managing billions of requests weekly, establishing the benchmark for operational best practices and incident response.
• Infrastructure Strategy: Propel the advancement of our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns using Terraform, ensuring modularity, security, and reusability throughout the organization while striving for a self-service approach to minimize team TOIL.
• Continuous Optimization: Persistently seek optimizations within our pipelines, releases, and deliveries that strike a balance between rapid deployment and stringent safety measures.
• Technical Mentorship and Reviews: Actively mentor L1 and L2 engineers and assist with code reviews, design documents, and pair programming to cultivate a culture of technical excellence.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Engage with cross-functional teams, including Product and Engineering leadership, to synchronize the technical roadmap, debt reduction, and delivery of new features.
• Continuous Innovation: Assume ownership and consistently research and prototype enhancements to Twilio’s API infrastructure to ensure top-tier service for our customers.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in Cloud, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with extensive expertise in Python, Java, Go, or another programming language of choice.
• Architectural Depth: Demonstrated success in designing and deploying intricate AWS cloud-native solutions (e.g., CloudFront, multitenancy, DNS, caching strategies, WAF, Lambda, S3, and hosting solutions) at scale.
• IaC Expert: Advanced proficiency with Terraform, including the creation of custom providers or managing state at scale across diverse environments.
• System Reliability: In-depth knowledge of SLIs, SLOs, golden signals, error budgets, and the development of monitoring strategies; extensive experience with Datadog, Grafana, or Athena to inform engineering decisions through data.
• Strong foundation in microservices architecture, particularly in traffic routing, rate limiting, and service discovery.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects from inception to completion, effectively managing trade-offs and communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Desired: Experience in implementing security-at-scale, including WAF management, DDoS mitigation, and Zero Trust architectures.
• Previous experience in Platform Engineering and a passion for creating "Internal Developer Platforms" that simplify infrastructure complexity for product teams.
• A documented history of contributing to the cloud-native or networking ecosystem, including contributions to public Terraform providers or similar open-source efforts.
