Senior C++ Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Become a member of the Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) development team at Arista Networks.

• Design and validate features tailored for extensive data-center networks.

• Create and distribute SONiC software for Arista's switching products.

• Collaborate with engineers and marketing team members to gather and comprehend both functional and technical requirements.

• Prepare functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and production code.

• Engage with the SONiC community to contribute code and test modifications upstream.

• Diagnose and resolve customer network issues, including the delivery of software updates or patches.

• Develop automated testing protocols, oversee test executions, and troubleshoot issues identified during testing.

• Take ownership of projects from the definition phase to deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

• Draft specifications for system software that manages hardware components.

• Implement system software solutions utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Collaborate with a team on routing-protocol solutions.

• Investigate issues raised by System Test Engineers and propose solutions.

• Guide and mentor new and junior engineers.

• Review and contribute to specifications and implementations from both team members and the SONiC community.

• Prepare and update implementation and debugging timelines weekly, reporting them to the project lead.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant postgraduate work experience.

• Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Python programming languages.

• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.

• Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts.

• Knowledge in at least one preferred networking area: IP routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, or PIM; or Layer 2 features including 802.1d bridging, Spanning Tree Protocol, Link Aggregation Control Protocol, Link Layer Discovery Protocol, or RFC 1812 IP routing.

• Capability to utilize, test, and troubleshoot packet forwarding engines and hardware component software libraries provided by vendors.

• Understanding of distributed systems infrastructure functions, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interface techniques.

• Practical knowledge of software engineering principles.

• Strong analytical and software troubleshooting abilities.

• Capability to independently design and implement solutions for small-scale problems.

• Ability to collaborate on a small team to tackle medium-scale problems with minimal supervision.

• Hands-on experience with Ethernet bridging, routing-related software, or distributed systems software is preferred.

• Practical experience in enterprise or service-provider Ethernet switch/router system software development, or substantial PhD-level research in network routing and packet forwarding, is advantageous.
